The Mint 400 Clean Up
For the 4th year the organizers of the Mint 400 had their annual Desert Clean Up. This desert clean up happens every year before the start of the Mint Race. Republic of Las Vegas sponsored the event free of charge with eight 40 yard trash bins and several dump trucks, they also brought out the food. More than 500 volunteers came out to support the clean up and removed tons of trash from the desert. “I’ve always said that off-roaders want to protect their lands just like the environmentalist, the only difference is we choose a way to get out to enjoy the beautiful areas.” States Andy Myers owner of Dirt Alliance and promoter of the International Off-Road & UTV Expo.
The efforts put out by the Martelli Brothers, Mad Media, and the volunteers of this clean show the responsibility being asserted by the off-road community to protect our riding areas and to keep them clean for generations to come.
Matt Martelli mentioned that he would like to see this become a national off-road clean up day that would one day lead to a global clean up day. We couldn’t agree more. Take a look at some of the photos and see the kind of trash that is disposed of and left in our deserts, obviously many of the debris reclaimed from the desert are not left there oro discarded from our off-road community, but from individuals that need education on respecting the lands we all use.
Hats off to the Mint 400 crew and volunteers for taking it upon themselves in leaving the desert better than the way they found it.
